Matteo Tafuro received his B.Sc. degree (Cum Laude) in Advanced Technology from the University of Twente (NL) in 2021, and his M.Sc. degree (Cum Laude, Hons.) in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Amsterdam (NL) in 2023.
During his master’s studies, he conducted his thesis with the QurAI research group (Amsterdam UMC) in collaboration with the University of Oxford, focusing on deep learning–based image registration methods for echocardiographic analysis.
From 2023 to 2025, he worked as an AI Engineer at the Amsterdam-based startup Freightdog, where he contributed to the company’s rapid growth by leading the development of LLM–based solutions to automate logistics operations.
Since September 2025, he has been a Research Fellow at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the Artificial and Mechanical Intelligence Lab. His work focuses on foundation models for multimodal human–humanoid interaction, with a special emphasis on the ergoCub robot.
